Dear Tom,

What an incredible spring! We raised over $72,000 with our annual auction and gala, and had over 150 attendees. Look for a letter from CWS in your mailbox soon!

Our children's support group began anew this spring, and we wanted to take a moment to savor the accomplishments of the past year.

Jerome* entered Kids Group with a habit of solving problems using threats and physical force. His anger bubbled just under the surface, and was evident in answers to questions asked by the facilitators of Kids Group. Kids Group is a community based support group for children affected by domestic violence. Most of the children we see in the children's support group are referrals from our 24 hour crisis line and from sister agencies.

The CWS Children’s Program offers a safe space to process the events children have seen and experienced, and offers education through discussion, art projects and games. After Jerome attended the first half of support group and talked through topics such as feelings, anger, and assertiveness, our staff checked in with Jerome’s mom. She mentioned a conversation from her recent parent-teacher conference at Jerome’s school. The teacher had remarked that Jerome had matured from a boy with many behavioral problems to a one of the best behaved and her favorite students in the entire class! Mom attributes the growth to Jerome’s attendance at Kids Group.

Suzanne Willett, comedienne from the east, will bring her feminist comedy to Portland this April 6th and 7th, and 13th and 14th. Part of the proceeds will benefit CWS, so come to Brunish Hall at 8 pm and have a good laugh! Tickets available through: Ticketmaster or PCPA's box office: 503.248.5335.

Suzanne presents a feminist comedy in four characters. Search for sexist pigs; hear the Virgin Mary's story; unite with your older sisters; or simply share the pain of suburbia.

Can you believe it? A Night In Paradise made over $72,000! This is the most successful event we've had yet! This is only our fourth annual auction and gala. We want to say thank you to you, our supporters, our volunteers, our table hosts, and our sponsors.

A Night in Paradise was coordinated by Kathy Williams of M Bank, board members Karin Morey and Susan Bartz, Pam Keil of Women's Health Center of Oregon, Wendy Doyle of Interior Concepts, and Janelle Meredith of Stargazer Baskets and Blooms. These tireless volunteers met week after week to plan and hone the details of this most successful event!

Our live auction trips were hotly contested, but nearly everyone wanted a piece of the opal! Pictured below is Toni Zobel with the $6,000 opal that she won, donated by the Diamond Dollars Card.

In attendance were State Representative Dave Hunt, Councilwoman and executive director Michele Eberle, local philanthropists and Circle of Hope members Wayne and Lynne Hamersly, board member Susan Bartz and her husband David, and board member Marnie Frank and her husband Doug. Also in attendance were board president Mike Wells, board treasurer David Hooff and his wife, Judy, board members Janice Chandler, Jim Shook, and Shannon Kmetic.

At the end of the evening, our local Afro-Cuban Jazz band Melao de Cana got everyone up and dancing! With trumpets, timbales, guitar, piano and three singers, Melao de Cana kept people dancing to the very end!

The gala was generously sponsored by Claim Jumper Restaurant, MBank, Precision Castparts Corp., Providence Milwaukie Hospital, Women's Health Center of Oregon, Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt PC, and West Coast Bank.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the gala, and if you couldn't make it this year, we plan on having even more fun next year with you!

Currently the shelter has no way to transport clients anonymously and safely. We need a mini-van to help get women, children, and babies to shelter, to apartment hunting, to job interviews, and to supermarkets. If you have a mini-van and would like to donate it, please contact us at 503-722-2366. Thank you!
We have a new shelter coordinator for Evergreen House! Her name is Amy, and she is just wonderful! Amy comes to us from the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Hillsboro. She loves empowering women through self-defense courses, and participating in the Portland Roller Derby!

We also have a super new case manager, Val, a bilingual and bicultural Russian speaker who helps us reach out to the Russian population in rural areas of Clackamas County.

Welcome everyone!
Don't worry! Giving through our website is fast, convenient and stamp-less! You can even set your gift to recur each month, to save you time and money!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out and supported Clackamas Women's Services at our annual gala and auction! We are using that money to continue our outreach in the community.

Muchas gracias
