CALL 911

Assault, rape and attempted murder by an intimate partner are crimes…just as if a stranger committed the same crimes! The mandatory arrest law says the police must arrest a perpetrator if violence has occurred. Even if charges are not filed, the police report can be used as evidence in the future.

Safety Planning

Creating a plan to...

  • Stay safe in the home with the abuser.
  • Help your children to stay safe in the home.
  • Leave the abuser.
  • Stay safe after leaving the abuser.
  • Stay safe at the workplace, school, etc.
  • Call the Crisis Line, (503) 654-2288, to create your own safety plan, or see the sections on safety planning for adults and children in this packet.

Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO's)

  • TRO's are not always a solution for every case! 60% of TRO's were violated in Oregon in 1998.
  • A TRO is a court order restricting an abuser's access to his/her partner, may include children.
  • Can request temporary custody of children.
  • Can include workplace, school, etc.
  • Must be renewed after one year.
  • Hearings are at 1:00 p.m. at Clackamas & Multnomah County courthouses.
  • Advocates are at courthouses to assist survivors in filling out applications.
  • Call CWS' Crisis Line at (503) 654-2288 for more information on how to obtain a Temporary Restraining Order
