Volunteering at CWS

Volunteering at Clackamas Women's Services

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Clackamas Women's Services! Volunteers are very valuable to our organization and help out in all areas of our programs and services.  

Direct Service Volunteer Opportunities: Anyone wanting to volunteer in direct services to women and children is required to complete our Volunteer Training. The training covers Clackamas Women's Services' philosophy and approach to working with women and children who are surviving domestic and sexual violence. Volunteer training sessions are offered several times throughout the year. Each session encompasses approximately 36-40 hours of reading, training and lectures spread out over several evenings and weekend dates.

The next training is scheduled to begin March 29th- April 14th.

For volunteers: training is free, $35 for materials

For community members (interested in being trained, do not want to become a volunteer): $100 plus $35 for materials

For BIPs: $300

Crisis Line & Emergency Shelter: Volunteers provide support to adult and child residents, answer the crisis line, complete phone screens and intakes, and ensure the safe and consistent functioning of shelter.

Children's Program: Volunteers spend time with children in play and educational activities. Volunteers may also conduct children's intakes.

Transitional Program: Volunteers provide on-going support, information, and resources to families who have left shelter and are participating in our transitional program.

Community Educator: Public speaker volunteers present educational programs to community groups, schools, businesses and religious groups about domestic violence and CWS services.

Support Group Facilitator: Volunteers co-facilitate weekly, two-hour domestic violence support groups for women in Clackamas County.

Legal Advocacy Program: Volunteers will work at our administrative offices and the Courthouse in Oregon City to support and advocate for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence as they go through the legal system.

Other Volunteer Opportunities with CWS: In addition to volunteering directly with survivors of family violence, volunteers also help CWS in other ways. Completion of the volunteer training is not required (but is encouraged) for these opportunities.

IT: Volunteer provide assistance with computers (hardware, software, or both), servers, networks, email, Microsoft programs, wiring, personal and business sized printers etc.

Administrative: Volunteers provide clerical assistance, data input and computer work in the outreach office and help in the publication and distribution of mailings.

Facilities and Donations: Volunteers assist with house maintenance and sorting and distributing donations.

Fundraising: Volunteers stuff appeal letters, help plan special events, and approach individuals and corporations for contributions.

Board of Directors: Board members set overall policy for the organization, oversee finances, lead fundraising efforts and help promote the organization in the community.
