Portland, Ore., Sept. 13, 2016 — In advance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, a collaborative of agencies that serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the Portland metro area have launched a new local campaign called “PDX Says No More.” The campaign was launched in solidarity with the national movement behind the NO MORE   campaign.

The “PDX Says No More” campaign aims to increase awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault; educate the public about local services available to victims and survivors, and encourage bystander intervention in an effort to end domestic violence and sexual assault.

“We know that one of a survivor’s best resources is a community that supports and believes them,” says Call to Safety Executive Director Rebecca Nickels, who helped to spearhead the campaign. “PDX Says No More will help community members know what they can do about domestic violence, how to get involved in ending it, and how to find important life-saving services.”

As part of the campaign, organizers have placed ads on area TriMet benches; in seven movie theaters in Clackamas, Washington and Multnomah counties; and in the Clackamas Review and Oregon City News. Targeted web ads will run on Facebook and across several Pamplin Media web sites.

“By educating the public about dynamics and patterns of abuse that are largely misunderstood, we believe we can empower bystanders to intervene and end the pattern of domestic and sexual abuse both in our communities and nationwide,” says Clackamas Women’s Services Executive Director Melissa Erlbaum.

The campaign was organized by Clackamas Women’s Services and Call to Safety with El Programa Hispano Católico, Home Free, YWCA, NAYA, and Women’s West acting as advisors. Other groups participating in the campaign include Raphael House of Portland, Bradley Angle, Domestic Violence Resource Center, and Impact NW.

NW Natural was the initial corporate sponsor of the campaign and the Children, Youth and Families Division of Clackamas County as well as the Domestic Violence Coordinators Office of Multnomah County have both sponsored the campaign. Pamplin Media is the campaign’s media sponsor.
