The Legacy [Video]

CWS’ Emergency Shelter is more than a haven of rest. It is a place where survivors can gather their strength and determine how they want to move forward in the world.

Services like CWS’ Emergency Shelter are more crucial than ever. Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness for women and children. As rent and housing costs rise in our area, women in abusive relationships may find themselves with nowhere to go and little hope.

I had the honor of meeting one of our participants last year. I had learned that she had worked with a videographer to produce a video for her poem, “The Legacy.” Through it, Julie McCurdy speaks so movingly about her experience with domestic violence and homelessness. It inspired me in my own work at CWS.

I hope her words inspire you too. Make your gift today to honor the resiliency of survivors like Julie. By contributing to our Holiday Challenge, you offer warm, safe spaces to survivors of domestic violence and their children, and you build a legacy of hope.
