Latina Services

Promotoras

Promotoras are Latina leaders dedicated to building safe and strong communities. As neighbors, family members, co-workers, and members of the faith community, Promotoras work within the Latino community to help domestic and sexual violence survivors and act as liaisons between survivors and community resources. Promotoras elevate Latina voices to inform community service providers.

CWS Promotoras receive training in domestic violence, sexual violence, community safety resources, supporting survivors, outreach, and leadership development. They participate in community outreach, one-on-one support, and systems advocacy work. Contact us to learn how you can become Promotora.

The Promotoras Model

Promotoras is a community outreach model that trains members of the Latina community to act as a liaison between essential domestic and sexual violence services among their family members, neighbors, and peers. Promotoras brings safety resources one step closer to a community where language, cultural, and economic barriers, as well as a growing fear of government systems, have traditionally made services inaccessible, leaving survivors vulnerable.

Survivors often face isolation as part of the abuse they experience and immigration status can often leave Latina survivors cut off from resources are further vulnerable to exploitation. The Promotoras model seeks to break down structural and cultural barriers to bring critical safety resources into Latino communities in a way that builds trust with agencies like CWS. Promotoras also use their lived experience and expertise to inform service providers about important gaps in safety systems or barriers to accessing safety.

Latina Services

Lack of culturally-specific resources, discrimination, and many other barriers (fear of deportation, lack of language access, etc.) can leave Latino survivors at greater risk of violence and abuse. We prioritize the needs of Latino survivors by eliminating barriers to services and advocating for equity across the county. All of our direct services are offered in Spanish, and CWS Latinx leaders build programming specifically with the Latino community in mind. We lead collaborative efforts to advance access to resources across the county through hosting the Latinx Provider Chat, and participating in the Hispanic Interagency Networking Team (HINT). By prioritizing diversity in our hiring practices, our staff reflects the diverse communities we serve.
